Description
The C9 Pulsometer Limited Edition Chronometer was Christopher Ward’s first pulsometer watch and one of the more specialised applications of the C9 platform. Produced as a limited edition of 250 pieces, it draws on the tradition of medical timing watches, where pulse rate is measured over a fixed number of heartbeats rather than elapsed time. The tachymeter‑style pulsometer scale is calibrated for 30 beats and printed in red around the outer edge of the dial, making it easy to read while keeping the rest of the layout deliberately simple.
The watch is powered by a COSC‑certified automatic chronograph movement and features a hacking seconds hand with a caduceus‑shaped counterbalance. While Asclepius is the figure most closely associated with medicine in Greek mythology, it is the caduceus, the staff of Hermes, that has become widely used as the symbol of medicine, particularly in North America. That detail is typical of the way Christopher Ward approached this model, adding small, considered touches without overworking the design. The result is a focused, legible chronograph with a clear purpose and one of the rarer references in the C9 range.
