Quick facts

Description

Christopher Ward first dipped a toe into the stealth‑watch world in January 2016 with the launch of the Mk2 C60 Titanium Version 1. That model was retired in 2019 when the C60 Mk3 arrived, but sales must have been healthy because CW followed it up with their first ever Abyss model in the 2019 range. The GMT version — the one for sale here — landed in 2020 alongside the range‑topping SH21 Abyss, which cost more than twice the price of the GMT and roughly three times that of the standard model.

For anyone unfamiliar with how a GMT works, the extra hand makes one full rotation of the dial every 24 hours. That means midnight lines up at 12 o’clock on the dial, and noon sits at the traditional 6 o’clock position. It’s an easy way to keep track of a second time zone at a glance — typically home time if you’re travelling. Rotate the bezel and you can read a third time zone just as easily.

Some watches photograph well and look much the same on the wrist — that really doesn’t apply here. It’s genuinely difficult to capture all the different black and grey finishes in photos. Some surfaces are brushed matte, others satin, and there are small polished highlights catching the edges. I’ll also admit I hadn’t even noticed the two‑tone bezel until I saw one in the flesh — once you’ve seen it, it’s obvious, but it’s subtle enough to disappear in pictures. The short version is that this watch looks far better in person than it does online.

What really sells it for me are the small details — things like the red GMT hand filled with black, which feels like a deliberate choice rather than a missed opportunity for contrast.

Is it easy to tell the time at a glance? No, not especially — it’s a stealth watch, that’s the point. The lume isn’t amazing either, but that’s not the point too. It’s just a brutally good stealth watch.
