Description
hristopher Ward has a long history of pushing at the edges of what is expected at its price point, whether through unconventional design choices or quiet technical ambition. The C60 Sapphire sits squarely in that tradition. Launched in April 2020 and based on the then‑new 40mm Mk3 C60 Trident Pro, it used a fully transparent sapphire dial and caseback to expose the Sellita automatic movement beneath. Producing that dial required a complex manufacturing process, resulting in a material that is extremely thin, scratch‑resistant and visually distinctive. It wasn’t a new complication or a reinvention of the Trident, but a willingness to do something more difficult than strictly necessary and see if it worked.
Specifically introduced for the January Sale of 2023, the C60 Sapphire Sunrise is a 40mm dive watch rated to 600 metres and draws inspiration from both the C60 Atoll Special Edition and the discontinued C60 Sapphire Orange. It kept the same sapphire dial, but made it more opaque so you couldn’t see the movement inside, but it still kept that amazing look. Although no official production numbers were published and the caseback carries no individual numbering, it is generally estimated that only around 40 examples were produced.
