Description
Christopher Ward’s interest in darker, more subdued dive watches goes back a few years, but the C60 Shadow Special Edition is the grand daddy of them all. Introduced in January 2023, it takes the familiar 42mm Trident platform and strips it back, focusing on tone, finish and mechanical substance rather than contrast or colour. Limited to just 28 pieces, it sits firmly at the serious end of the C60 range.
Power comes, of course, from the automatic version of Christopher Ward’s in‑house SH21 movement, bringing a five‑day power reserve, COSC‑certified timekeeping and a power reserve indicator positioned at nine o’clock. All of this is presented through a matte grey dial that keeps the focus on function.
Like most stealth watches, this is one that photographs badly and wears far better than it looks online. The different grey tones only really make sense in person, with brushed, satin and matte surfaces interacting in a way that’s difficult to capture. There are small highlights along the edges, but nothing that breaks the overall effect. It is intentionally restrained and very deliberate in how little it gives away. Is it the most legible C60 at a glance? No, and it’s not trying to be. The lume is functional rather than spectacular and contrast is kept low by design. What sells it for me is that it commits fully to the idea. This isn’t a black watch with a token accent colour or a stealth treatment applied as an afterthought. It is a genuinely pared‑back, movement‑led dive watch - one of the best executions of the C60 platform.
