SOLD WH1816 C7 Rapide Mk3 Day/Date Automatic Prototype (03/2022)
Quick facts
Reference: C7 Rapide Mk3
Category: Motor sport
Size: Medium / Large
Movement: Automatic
Condition: Very good
CW warranty: Expires March 2027
Buy it if you want: a one-off motor-racing inspired automatic great.
Description
With the exception of a handful of military specials, the Christopher Ward C7 (and C70) range has always been home to the brand’s sport and motorsport‑inspired watches. The C7 Rapide first appeared in 2008 as a quartz chronograph and that theme continued with the Mk2 in 2012, which was essentially the original case with a selection of new dial designs.
It wasn’t until the broader C7 redesign that Christopher Ward began to explore the case beyond chronographs alone. The Mk3 C7 included regular three handers rather than having the additional subdials of the chronograph. The case of the Mk3 is fantastic - I love the scalloped lugs with polished edges, the contrasting black ring around the case and the complexity of the multi‑part case construction.
For this limited edition run of 100, power comes from a Swiss automatic movement certified as a COSC chronometer and it displays both day and date. This one is a prototype - it is number 000 of 100. I couldn’t tell you what the difference is between it and the regular limited edition run though!
Condition and performance
The watch is in very good condition with visible but light signs of wear.
Case: Clean save for a pinprick on the left hand side of the cases
Bezel: Clean - no issues
Crystal: Clear, no marks
Supplied on a CW motor sport Italian Piccari Vintage leather in great condition.
Comes boxed with cleaning cloth and warranty booklet/card - it is serial 000 confirming it is a prototype. No owner’s manual, but this can be found online.
It has the start of ‘spinning rotor syndrome’ so will need to go back to CW towers before the five year warranty expires (in March 2027). I can arrange this before shipment if preferred (it takes 6-8 weeks).
Timegrapher: +1 spd.
Strap options

Replacement of existing strap for a standard unworn CW strap: no cost change
Additional standard unworn CW strap: £50 increase
