Description
The C65 only really came into focus as a coherent range in 2018. Earlier uses of the name were essentially variations on the C60, sharing cases and architecture and never quite standing on their own. That changed with the release of the C65 Trident Diver, which marked Christopher Ward’s first deliberate move into the retro dive space and the point at which the C65 became a platform rather than a side note. It was also the first diver to use the Light‑catcher case, bringing a more sculpted, fluid profile to a category that had previously been more utilitarian in CW’s lineup. From there, the C65 quickly expanded into a broader family — covering vintage divers, military styles and more experimental offshoots — and in the process began to rival the C60 as the brand’s defining dive watch.
Introduced in July 2020, the C65 AM GT Limited Edition was originally slated to be the final Christopher Ward watch to be produced with a quartz movement, following an earlier announcement that quartz production was coming to an end. With a dial based on the speedometer of the Aston Martin DB4 Zagato, the watch takes design cues from CW's earlier C9 AM GT and uses the same highly accurate COSC-certified movement as the C70 Chronometers. Chronograph seconds and minutes registers are read via centrally mounted hands, and the three subdials are devoted to chronograph hours and tenths, and running seconds with a date window inserted at 6.00.
They were positioned as a closing chapter, although the later arrival of the C63 Valour suggested that CW was not entirely finished with high‑accuracy quartz after all.
