Description
When Christopher Ward launched the C63 Colchester in November 2021, they took the innovative formula of the Sealander Elite and pushed it even further. Developed in partnership with the British Army's Parachute Regiment, the Colchester combines military inspiration with some of the most technically ambitious engineering the brand has ever attempted.
Its defining features are:
It uses a 41mm case made from injected carbon composite – the first time Christopher Ward had employed the material. The result is an incredibly tough yet featherweight watch, with the watch head weighing just 38g, making it the lightest automatic watchChristopher Ward has ever produced.
The dial is crafted from compressed carbon resin, giving each watch a unique texture and appearance while reinforcing thelightweight, technical theme that runs throughout the design.
Like the Sealander Elite, it features a telescoping titanium crown that retracts flush into the case when not in use. It's an impressivepiece of engineering rarely seen at this price point and contributes to the watch's clean, streamlined profile.
The watch retains the Elite's distinctive translucent architecture. On the reverse, the Parachute Regiment's cap badge is mounted on a carbon "coin" at the centre of the sapphire caseback, allowing light to pass through the movement while proudly displaying the Regiment's insignia. It was the first time Christopher Ward had incorporated a military crest into a sapphire display back.
Power comes from a chronometer-certified Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement, ensuring the same high level of accuracy and reliability found in the Elite.
Military heritage is woven throughout the design, from the bespoke black and maroon #tide strap to the maroon accents on theseconds hand and hour markers—a nod to the Regiment's iconic maroon beret.
The result is a watch that feels unlike anything else in the Christopher Ward catalogue: exceptionally light, highly technical and infused with genuine military provenance, while retaining the everyday versatility that made the Sealander platform such a success.
