Description
The C1000 range marked Christopher Ward’s first real push beyond the sub‑£1,000 comfort zone and into genuinely high‑spec territory. Introduced in the early 2010s, it sat above the established Malvern and Trident lines and was intended as a platform to showcase what CW could do with advanced materials and more complex construction. Where the C11 explored professional use cases through depth ratings and internal bezels, the C1000 was about material innovation, strength to weight gains and pushing perceived value well beyond expectations for the price.
The C1000 Typhoon is an aviation‑led chronograph inspired by the Eurofighter Typhoon. It was CW’s first (and only) ceramic‑cased watch, using a black ceramic outer shell built around a titanium sub‑frame. This construction brought real advantages: scratch resistance, reduced weight and a very different wearing experience to steel or titanium alone. At the time, ceramic cases were still the preserve of far more expensive brands, which made the C1000 feel like a statement of intent rather than a simple range extension.
At 42mm wide and around 15mm thick, the C1000 isn’t a small watch - yet it wears much smaller than its numbers would suggest. The matt black ceramic case gives it strong visual presence without the shine or bulk that often comes with steel chronographs of similar dimensions. Power comes from a modified Valjoux 7750 automatic chronograph movement.
