Description
Released in mid 2019, the C1 Moonglow was an important watch for Christopher Ward. It was the first model to use translucent glass on the dial, allowing light to pass through and adding depth in a way CW had not attempted before. In hindsight, it set the groundwork for the C60 Sapphire that followed the year after. There are details that really work here, particularly the red‑tipped seconds hand and the red date indicator, which add just enough contrast without disrupting the overall balance.
It is an unusual dial, but a well‑considered one. The defining feature is the semi‑transparent lower half of the dial, which reveals part of the underlying structure and gives the Moonglow its layered appearance. It is a design choice that won’t be for everyone, but it is exactly what sets the watch apart from more conventional moonphase layouts. Power comes from the JJ04 movement developed with Johannes Jahnke, offering a high‑precision moonphase display alongside the visual features. The result is a watch that feels distinct within the C1 range, combining a traditional complication with a more experimental approach to dial design.
