WH1913DD C1 Bel Canto Phoenix Limited Edition (05/2024)

£4,795.00

Quick facts

Description

Bel Canto marked a shift in how Christopher Ward was perceived, introducing a sonnerie au passage that chimes once on the hour and presenting it with an unusually open dial‑side construction. The striking hammer and supporting bridgework are visible on the dial, giving the mechanism space rather than compressing it into a decorative display. The approach follows a line of thinking seen previously in CW’s JJ‑calibre projects, placing a mechanical event directly in view. Finishing is controlled and functional, with lightly chamfered dial structures and a layout that prioritises clarity. The model sold out quickly on release, received significant critical recognition, and established Bel Canto as a technically ambitious watch that built on earlier experimental work within the brand.

The Phoenix Limited Edition was developed by Jas, a private collector with a strong following and a clear eye for design. Like many others, he was drawn in by the original Azzurro Blue Bel Canto, which sold out quickly on release and showed what the platform could do. This version started from a more personal point, inspired by his Volcano Orange McLaren 765 Longtail.

As with all of his bespoke watch designs, a lot of thought went into how the watch would work in practice. The aim was to improve legibility over earlier versions while keeping the mechanism as the focal point. The hammer had always been the defining feature, so it became central to the concept, which is where the Phoenix name comes from. The detail work is where it comes through. The black hand and accent combination works as the best contrast against the orange dial. The same thinking carries through to the rest of the watch, including the bespoke strap, which mirrors the materials and colour accents of the McLaren interior.

Limited to 99 pieces, this is one of the most desirable BCs out there, with them rarely changing hands.
