Description
For a long time, Christopher Ward didn’t really have a proper everyday automatic. There were strong divers and some interesting one‑offs, but nothing that fully nailed the idea of a watch you could put on every morning without thinking about it. When the Sealander arrived in April 2021, that changed. The 39mm size is spot on for most wrists and the case wears slimmer than you’d expect. It feels well made without feeling precious, and the design is clean without ever being dull. It works just as well on a bracelet as it does on a strap and doesn’t feel out of place in any setting. If someone asked me to recommend a first automatic for daily wear, this would probably be it.
Designed by Christopher Ward Afficianado Group member Nathan Ziff, this particular example is the C63 Sealander GMT 39 Sunset Limited Edition. At its core it’s the same well‑judged platform, but with a dial and colour treatment that gives it a very different character. The sunset dial is the obvious focal point — a warm gradient that shifts from deep red through to orange depending on the light. It’s more expressive than the standard Sealander dials, but still restrained enough to work as an everyday watch. The GMT function adds an extra layer of practicality, making it as useful for travel as it is for day‑to‑day wear.
