Description
The C11 was Christopher Ward’s second attempt at a square‑cased watch, following the C13/C15 Henley models introduced in 2008. Where the Henley watches were positioned firmly as dress pieces — with the C13 offered in quartz form and the C15 as an automatic — the C11 took a very different approach. Rather than treating the square case as a stylistic novelty, CW used it as the basis for a broad, functional range spanning aviation, diving and motorsport. In doing so, the C11 became one of the more versatile and experimental families in the early CW catalogue, exploring how a non‑round case could work as a genuine tool watch rather than a formal alternative.
The aviation‑inspired C11 MSL (Mean Sea Level) first appeared in 2011 with the PVD‑coated “Black Manta” variant, featuring white markers and the original CW logo. The range expanded significantly in 2012, coinciding with the introduction of the CHR. WARD wordmark, and grew to include silver and black case versions, vintage‑marker dials, a quartz chronograph and the related C11 Makaira dive models. With its aviation dial layout and square case architecture, it captures the C11 range at its most refined, before CW moved away from square designs altogether.
All C11s were the first CWL watches to use a museum grade sapphire crystal as well as outside AR coating. This is the quartz chronograph version.
