Description
Launched in 2009, the C70 is one of the most important and, today, most collectable motorsport watches Christopher Ward has produced. It was the line that established CW’s early reputation for bold design, historical storytelling and disruptive value, and proved the brand could build a cult following well beyond dive watches.
The range debuted as the C70 Grand Prix series, a set of six 500‑piece limited editions, each dedicated to a landmark early Grand Prix race. Powered by ETA quartz chronograph movements, these original models remain the purest expression of the C70 idea. From 2011, the line expanded beyond Grand Prix racing into rallying, aviation‑linked military editions and British motorsport specials, growing into a broad platform that became a cornerstone of CW’s catalogue.
One of the original 6 GP LEs, the C70GB is also known as the “Brooklands”. Wearing the famous British Racing Green livery, the watch commemorates the first British Grand Prix organised by Henry Segrave at the Brooklands course in Surrey in 1926.
Segrave is considered to be one of the most important pioneers of motor racing in Britain, having won the 1923 French Grand Prix. The race at Brooklands was won by the French team of Louis Wagner and Robert Sénéchal initial in the Delage 155B.
