Quick facts

Description

For a long time CW was missing a proper everyday automatic. There were great divers and interesting one‑offs, but nothing that really nailed the brief of a watch you could put on every morning and not think about. When the Sealander arrived in April 2021, they pretty much hit it out of the park.

The 39mm size is spot on for most wrists and the watch wears slimmer than you’d expect. It feels well made without feeling precious and the design is clean without being dull. It works on a bracelet or a strap and doesn’t look out of place in any setting. Now available in a variety of sizes and colours, if someone asked me to recommend a first automatic watch for daily wear this would be the one, hands down.

Based on the C63 Sealander Automatic, the 2023 Forum Limited Edition was the result of a more tightly focused design process than earlier Forum projects. Rather than being proposed and voted on by the wider membership, this watch was developed by a small committee led by forum moderator welshlad, supported by the forum Admin Team and members ajax87, Clach77, rkovars and nbg. The aim was to produce a cohesive design with a clear direction from the outset.

The defining feature is the dial, which Christopher Ward described as the most complex they had produced at the time. The layered construction and detailing go well beyond the standard Sealander dial and required significantly more development work to execute properly. Everything else remains familiar in use, but the dial gives the watch a depth and presence that sets it clearly apart from regular production models. It stands as one of the most technically involved community‑led editions CW has produced and a fabulous example of what can be achieved when the brief is tightly controlled.
