WH1846J C8 UTC Worldtimer (08/2020)
Quick facts
Reference: C8 UTC Worldtimer
Category: Aviation / Worldtimer
Size: Large
Movement: Automatic
Condition:Excellent
Ward Hoard warranty: Six months from date of purchase
Buy it if you want: A travel watch that looks different and actually works in the real world.
Description
Launched in August 2016 at £900 the C8 UTC was a real headturner for CW. The offset crowns give it a distinctive look and the lower crown, which rotates the internal worldtimer bezel, is what really sets it apart. It felt different to anything else CW was making at the time and still does.
It’s a big watch at 44mm and 53.2mm lug to lug but at around 11.5mm thick it wears better than you might expect. For comparison the C60 GMT using the same ETA movement is noticeably taller. The red arrow GMT hand takes 24 hours to circle the dial and once you get used to the system it’s very intuitive. When I’m away from the UK I set the internal bezel with LON at the top then set the GMT hand to London time so home time is always there at a glance. It’s practical, a bit quirky and still one of the more interesting travel watches CW has made.
Condition and performance
The watch is in excellent condition with no obvious signs of use.
I think it is a prototype as the indices and inner dial ring have white text, whereas the outer dial ring with the cities has vintage text. In the library pic, it is all vintage text for the DLC version and all white for the Stainless version. Who knows? Whatever - it looks great.
Case: Clean - no issues
Bezel: Clean - no issues
Crystal: Clear, no marks
