Description
Christopher Ward entered the ladies’ watch market in 2007, developing a dedicated women’s range that ultimately comprised 21 different models. Despite sustained effort over several years, the line never achieved the same commercial success as the brand’s men’s watches. In 2014, CW announced its intention to exit the women’s market entirely, and by 2015 all remaining stock had been sold off so the brand could focus on better‑performing core ranges. While CW no longer produces watches explicitly marketed towards women, the introduction of smaller case sizes in recent years has made much of the current catalogue more wearable across a broader audience. Because the original ladies’ models were produced in relatively small numbers, they now surface infrequently on the secondary market — typically only one or two examples per month across the outlets I monitor.
Introduced in September 2011 as part of a completely new women’s collection, the S21 Emily Deco is an elongated, steel‑cased quartz dress watch. Its proportions and styling reflect early‑20th‑century Art Deco influences, with an emphasis on verticality rather than diameter. As with much of CW’s women’s output of the period, it prioritised elegance and wearability over crossover appeal with the men’s range.
