Description
The C65 range only really came into focus as a distinct platform in 2018. Earlier uses of the name were attached to variations of the C60 rather than a clearly defined family, but that changed with the introduction of fully formed, retro‑leaning tool watches that stood on their own terms. With slimmer cases, vintage proportions and very specific historical references, the C65 became the place where Christopher Ward explored older ideas properly rather than reworking existing ones. From there, it grew into a broad line covering dive, military and field watches, separating itself from the Trident both visually and philosophically.
The C65 Super Compressor is my favourite expression of that approach. It revives a case construction that has been obsolete for decades, using a spring‑based system that increases sealing pressure as depth increases. The mechanism is utterly pointless given modern water‑resistance and brilliant at the same time. The internal rotating bezel, twin‑crown layout and large exhibition caseback are throwbacks to mid‑century dive watch design, with the latter offering a view of the compression spring and diving‑bell motif. With a cushion case and a slim design, it wears extremely well, the C65 Super Compressor feels less like a solution to a problem and more like a well‑judged indulgence.
