WH1732E C65 Sandhurst Bronze Series 2 (10/2022)
Quick facts
Reference: C65 Sandhurst Series 2
Category: Adventure / Military
Size: Small/Medium
Movement: Automatic
Condition: Very good
Christopher Ward (manufacturer) warranty: Expires October 2027
Buy it if you want: a go-anywhere bronze watch that will patinate beautifully.
Description
The C65 range only really came into focus as its own line in 2018. Earlier use of the name had been applied to variations of the C60 rather than a distinct family, but that changed with the release of the C65 Trident Diver, which marked Christopher Ward’s first deliberate move into retro‑inspired tool watches. It also introduced the Light‑Catcher case to the dive line, bringing more sculpted case geometry than anything CW had produced previously. From that point, the C65 expanded steadily into military, field and vintage‑themed models, establishing itself as a parallel platform to the C60 rather than a derivative.
The C65 Sandhurst Series 2 Bronze sits within Christoper Ward’s formally licensed Military Collection and represents the second iteration of the Sandhurst field watch. Based on the 1969 Smiths W10, it adopts a 38 mm bronze Light‑Catcher case, a glass‑box sapphire crystal and 150 metre water resistance. Power comes from a COSC‑certified Sellita SW200‑1, while the dial layout remains intentionally restrained, with improved lume on both Arabic numerals and markers compared to the original Series 1 release. The British Army heraldic badge is deeply stamped into the stainless‑steel caseback and is the only explicit reference to the Service. The use of bronze introduces a material variation without altering the Sandhurst’s proportions or specification,
Condition and performance
The watch is in very good condition with visible signs of patina. It can be brought back to raw bronze with liberal use of lemon juice or vinegar.
Case: Patina evident
Bezel: Patina evident
Crystal: Clear, no marks
Supplied on a ‘rare as hen’s teeth’ bronze bracelet with three spare links (one missing screw).
Comes boxed with owner’s manual, cleaning cloth and warranty booklet/card. No COSC certificate.
Timegrapher: Approximately -22 seconds per day, which isn’t really good enough, particularly for a COSC watch. However, it is under warranty until October 2027, so I would be tempted to see if it settles down under use and if not, return to CW to have it calibrated under warranty. (It should be free of charge before October 2027, but Ward Hoard will underwrite any cost in the event that CW refuse a warranty claim before October 2027). If you prefer, we can return to CW and get sorted before it is sent (this ordinarily takes 6-8 weeks).
