Quick facts

Description

The C65 range only really came into focus in 2018. Earlier uses of the name were essentially variations on the C60 and never quite stood on their own. That changed with the release of the C65 Trident Diver, which marked CW’s first deliberate move into the retro dive space and the point at which the C65 became a platform rather than a side note. This was also the first diver to use the Light‑catcher case, bringing a more sculpted and fluid profile to a category that had previously been more utilitarian in CW’s lineup. From there the C65 quickly expanded into a broader family, covering vintage divers, military styles and more experimental offshoots, and in the process began to rival the C60 as the brand’s defining dive watch.

The C65 Trident Vintage Diver set the tone for everything that followed. Its 41 mm Light‑catcher case wears flatter than the numbers suggest, helped by slim mid‑case proportions, a low bezel and a domed sapphire that keeps the overall height in check despite the quoted 11.5 mm thickness. Unusually for a modern diver, early versions were hand‑wound, which changes how you interact with the watch day to day and adds a level of engagement that automatic divers often lack. The design leans clearly on mid‑century cues with warm lume, applied markers and an aluminium bezel, but stops short of pastiche. It is not about maximum depth ratings or technical bravado, but about balance, wearability and feel, which explains why its ‘goldilocks’ size became the foundation for so many later C65 variants.
