Description
Introduced in 2009, the C60 Trident Mk1 marked the point at which Christopher Ward found a clear and confident dive‑watch identity. Compared to what came before, it brought a more disciplined dial layout, better‑judged hand and marker proportions, and a case that balanced tool‑watch intent with everyday wearability. It also introduced the trident seconds hand, a small detail that would go on to become one of CW’s most recognisable design signatures. At an initial price of around £300 and offered only in black, it was an absurdly good value proposition and quickly established the Trident as the backbone of the brand.
Early Mk1 models featured the round Christopher Ward London logo and painted aluminium bezel inserts, and although officially listed as 42mm, the case actually measured 43mm. GMT versions followed in 2010, identifiable by their white or orange bezel pips. In 2012, the range evolved again with the introduction of the Chr. Ward wordmark and a broader palette of bezel and accent colours. These later models are often referred to as Mk1.5 references: mechanically and structurally Mk1s, but visually refreshed. Some of those colourways — particularly the blue/blue version — have since become some of the most characterful and collectable early Tridents.
