Description
In 2008, Christopher Ward introduced the C8 Pilot Mk1, and with it a case design that would go on to underpin some of the brand’s most distinctive aviation watches. At 44mm, the C8 remains the largest case CW has ever produced. On paper that sounds enormous, but the reality has always been more nuanced. It’s still too large for me and my fairly modest wrists, but thanks to its relatively slim profile — just 9.7mm thick in Mk2 form — the C8 has never worn like CW’s biggest watch. In fact, a 42mm C60 at 15mm thick feels noticeably larger on the wrist than a 44mm C8 under 10mm. The C8 is wide rather than tall, and that difference in proportion is what makes it work better than the numbers suggest.
In 2013, CW introduced the C8 Regulator Mk1, and in doing so created an instant cult watch. Powered by a modified Unitas 6498, it displays minutes on the central hand, hours on an upper sub‑dial and seconds on a lower sub‑dial — an unconventional layout that feels entirely at home in an aviation context, where minute‑reading precision matters more than anything else. This watch, the C8 Regulator Limited Edition, was produced as a follow-up in a run of just 100 pieces and brought subtle but meaningful changes, including the v.3 logo and a smoked sapphire exhibition caseback. It doesn’t change what the Regulator is, but it adds a layer of refinement and finality.
