Description
The C5 Malvern Automatic is the watch that started it all for Christopher Ward. Introduced in 2005 in its original 38mm Mk1 form it was CW’s first watch and the model that put the brand on the map. The Mk1 ran from 2005 to 2012, followed by the Mk2, which increased the case size to 39mm and covered the period from 2012 to 2016. The Mk III, launched in January 2017, retained the 39mm size and represented a clear visual reset while remaining recognisably a Malvern.
This watch is the third and final iteration of that original idea. Without it, the Christopher Ward story might have looked very different. The Mk III uses an all new three‑piece case that takes its fundamental design cues from the C1 Grand Malvern, giving it a far more shapely profile than earlier versions. At just 10mm thick, it wears slim and elegant, helped by a case design that avoids the slab‑sided feel of its predecessors. The white dial has a subtle metallic finish with hints of ivory and silver, while polished applied batons contrast cleanly with the blue hands. It flies under the radar but the quality is obvious once you handle it. One of CW’s best kept secrets.
