Description
The C65 Cranwell is named after the Royal Air Force College at Cranwell, where RAF officers undertake their initial training. With Christopher Ward’s longstanding relationship with the UK armed forces, and a history of producing bespoke service‑only watches, the Cranwell sits among a small group of CW models that translate genuine military design into a publicly available watch. Alongside the Dartmouth and Sandhurst, it formed part of the first wave of CW’s officially approved military models released in 2019, each aligned to a specific branch of the services.
In September 2022, CW introduced the Series 2 Cranwell, refining the original concept with a new 38 mm Light‑catcher™ case, a redesigned dial and an overall higher level of finishing. Officially approved by the Ministry of Defence, the Series 2 places even greater emphasis on legibility and authenticity. The dial was completely reworked and now carries the twin‑flags logo, with Arabic numerals printed in Super‑LumiNova®, complemented by Old Radium‑toned quarter‑hour batons and the inverted triangle at twelve. Powered by a COSC‑certified automatic movement, the Cranwell Series 2 retains its role as a precise, aviation‑focused tool watch, updated to align with CW’s modern proportions and design language without losing its military roots.
