Description
The C11 range arrived in 2011, at a point when Christopher Ward was still experimenting with what its technical sports watches should be. The Trident already existed, having been introduced a couple of years earlier, but it had not yet become the brand’s defining line. That left space for the C11 to explore more specialised territory, leaning harder into aviation and professional dive‑watch concepts. The C11 models were more complex, more technical and more assertive than the Tridents of the time, and they played an important role in shaping CW’s reputation for specification‑led watches during its first decade.
The C11 Extreme is the daddy of the C11 range: waterproof to 1,000 metres, 1,000 pieces made, and priced at £1,000 when you could still buy one new. It was available between 2014 and 2016 and represented a definitive full stop to the C11 line, going out with a 15mm‑tall bang rather than a quiet fade.
A watch of that height, driven by a 4mm sapphire crystal and a thicker caseback required to achieve the 1,000m depth rating, was never going to be subtle. The lime‑green markers reinforce that message. Even so, the design stops short of excess. The dial remains clean and legible and the softer sheen of the titanium case takes some visual weight off what is, unavoidably, a very serious piece of equipment.
The three apparent “crowns” are all functional. On the left is a helium escape valve. At the upper right is the control for the internal rotating bezel. The lower right crown handles time and date setting. Nothing here is decorative and nothing is trying to be clever for the sake of it.
As a limited edition of 1,000, the C11 Extreme has now been off sale for many years and most examples have long since settled into collections. As time passes, fewer and fewer come up for sale, particularly well‑looked‑after, complete examples.
