Description
The C9 AM GT, introduced in 2019 as a limited edition of 135 pieces, represents one of the more unusual applications of the C9 case in Christopher Ward’s catalogue. Historically, the C9 had been CW’s primary dress‑watch platform, defined by clean lines, balanced proportions and a focus on mechanical clarity. In the AM GT, that architecture was deliberately repurposed for motorsport, translating classic automotive instrumentation into a watch that remained elegant rather than aggressive. Speedometer‑inspired numerals, an inclined outer dial ring and a power‑reserve indicator styled like a rev counter give it a clear motorsport identity without relying on chronograph scales or overt racing colours. The power‑reserve in particular is the detail that makes it work for me: it adds mechanical interest, reinforces the automotive theme and gives the dial something to engage with beyond simple timekeeping.
Powered by the ETA Valgranges A07.161, the C9 AM GT also marked the final appearance of the C9 case in the CW catalogue. In that sense, it works as both culmination and farewell: the last motorsport watch to take a dress‑leaning, mechanically expressive route, rather than the bold technical language of the C7 or the historically driven storytelling of the C70.
