WH1632C C900 World timer (undated)

£1,295.00

Quick facts

Description

The C900 Worldtimer is an unconventional watch on several levels. Instead of the familiar 12‑hour dial used by most mechanical watches, it runs on a 24‑hour face, with noon sitting at the six o’clock position. That immediately changes how you read it, but it also sets the tone. This is a watch that expects a little engagement from its owner. Beyond that, an internal wheel can be set to display global cities, marked both by a red dot on the map and by the three‑letter airport code for each major location. Add to that two hour hands – one for local time and one for a second time zone, identified via the zone indicator – and you end up with a genuinely capable travel watch rather than a decorative one.

All of this is driven by what Christopher Ward call their JJ03 movement. It began life as an ETA 2893, but was heavily re‑worked by Johannes Jahnke, whose involvement gives the calibre its JJ prefix. The modifications allow the movement to manage the worldtimer display without compromising usability, turning what could have been a novelty into something coherent and functional on the wrist.

The C900 Worldtimer was launched in 2013 and retired in 2017. It did not generate huge attention while it was a current model, but time has been kind to it. Since its discontinuation, interest and desirability have steadily increased, with prices rising and availability falling. One example sold by Ward Hoard even found its way into the Watchmaker Museum in Amsterdam, which says a great deal about how this once‑overlooked watch is now being reassessed.
