Description
The C9 Jump Hour was Christopher Ward’s first complication and remains one of the most distinctive watches the brand has produced. Instead of a conventional hour hand, the JJ01 movement displays the hour through a small aperture, while the minute hand sweeps the dial as normal. At the top of each hour the displayed numeral jumps instantly to the next, giving a clear read of the time with a layout that feels unusual but easy to live with. It is intuitive in use and quickly becomes second nature.
The Mk3 Jump Hour retained the original 43mm case size, but refined the execution with Arabic numerals. At the same time, CW introduced a 40mm version for the first time, offering the same JJ01 complication in a smaller case. For me, the 40mm Jump Hour was my second Christopher Ward and the watch that really led me down the watch rabbit hole. I think they are brilliant - the crisp click on the hour, every hour, is just magical.
