Quick facts

Description

The C65 range only really came into focus in 2018. Earlier uses of the name were essentially variations on the C60 and never quite stood on their own. That changed with the release of the C65 Trident Diver, which marked CW’s first deliberate move into the retro dive space and the point at which the C65 became a platform rather than a side note. This was also the first diver to use the Light‑catcher case, bringing a more sculpted and fluid profile to a category that had previously been more utilitarian in CW’s lineup. From there the C65 quickly expanded into a broader family, covering vintage divers, military styles and more experimental offshoots, and in the process began to rival the C60 as the brand’s defining dive watch.

Introduced in January 2019, the C65 Trident Automatic builds directly on that foundation, keeping the same Light‑catcher case and overall proportions but shifting the emphasis towards convenience. The red bezel version is my favourite of the standard automatic models, pairing a black dial with a red aluminium insert that adds contrast and warmth without feeling overdone. While the case still wears slimmer than the numbers suggest, the move to an automatic movement changes the relationship with the watch. It loses the daily interaction of the hand‑wound version in favour of something you can put on and forget, making it feel slightly easier to live with day to day while retaining the mid‑century cues that define the C65 family.
