Description
Launched in September 2010, the C9 Harrison GMT was one of three models released to mark the 250th anniversary of John Harrison’s H4 marine chronometer, the breakthrough timekeeper that solved the problem of determining longitude at sea. Named in honour of the British horologist, the Harrison range was conceived from the outset as Christopher Ward’s most formal and historically grounded collection, with a clear link between navigation, precision and mechanical timekeeping.
The GMT variant added a practical complication that aligned naturally with that maritime heritage. It was the first GMT watch produced by Christopher Ward and featured an adjustable 24‑hour hand to indicate a second time zone. Rather than leaning into overt travel or aviation cues, the Harrison GMT retained the restrained dress‑watch character of the range, pairing the additional functionality with a disciplined dial layout and the same large, thin‑bezelled case that defined the Harrison line. In doing so, it demonstrated CW’s early intent to integrate complications in a measured and purposeful way, reinforcing the Harrison’s role as a foundation for the brand’s later, more technically ambitious work.
