Description
Bel Canto marked a shift in how Christopher Ward was perceived, introducing a sonnerie au passage that chimes once on the hour and presenting it with an unusually open dial‑side construction. The striking hammer and supporting bridgework are visible on the dial, giving the mechanism space rather than compressing it into a decorative display. The approach follows a line of thinking seen previously in CW’s JJ‑calibre projects, placing a mechanical event directly in view. Finishing is controlled and functional, with lightly chamfered dial structures and a layout that prioritises clarity. The model sold out quickly on release, received significant critical recognition, and established Bel Canto as a technically ambitious watch that built on earlier experimental work within the brand.
The Lumière keeps the chiming mechanism unchanged but reworks almost everything around it. The smoked sapphire dial remains, but the platine beneath is printed with multiple layers of Super-LumiNova and surrounded by a floating Globolight® ring. The lower sections glow blue, the upper sections green, while the hands and hour track receive the same treatment. Even the on/off indicator glows in the dark.
Unlike the original Bel Canto, which is primarily about the visible striking mechanism, the Lumière is as much about the watch after dark as it is during the day. The underlying architecture remains familiar, but the added luminescent elements give the dial a noticeably different character without changing how the watch works.
Condition and performance
The watch is in excellent condition - no issues identified.
Supplied on a CW white strap infused with Super-LumiNova® delivering an all-wrist glow. In great condition.
Comes boxed with owner’s manual and warranty booklet/card.
