Introduction
Whilst it’s mostly about CW, it’s not all about CW. There are some fantastic other brands out there that I’ve had as part of my own collection that operate a similar space to CW. I’m not talking your Rolex, Omega or Tudor, more your Halios, Pinion, Monta, anOrdian or Zero West.
Helicon is one such smaller brand. Based just outside London and run by a husband-and-wife team, they’re doing things properly: designing everything in-house, working with trusted partners, and keeping production limited and personal. Their pieces take inspiration from vintage dive watches—especially the 1962 prototype that sparked their Master 62 series (this one). They’ve been really well received by the watch community with their limited edition runs selling out fast.
There’s quite a bit of focus on the dial - it’s a beautiful Sunray finish using a metallic filament brush. It is hand spun to get a subtle but but effective fumé or smoked finish, with a lighter centre graduating to a darker edge. Think ‘tiger eye’ and you’ve got it. It’s a multi-dimensional dial that plays with the light.
Condition
The watch itself is in lovely condition. It’s not been worn much, if at all. Comes boxed with papers, instruction manual. It comes on the stainless steel bracelet, complete with all spare links. It also comes with two as new Helicon rubber straps.
Keeping great time at +2 or 3 spd.
