Christopher Ward C70 DBR1 COSC AM100 Limited Edition

Introduction

There are three versions of the C70 DBR1

1) The C70 DBR1 An addition to the original 6, the C70 DBR1 was launched in September 2010 as a limited edition of 500 pieces.
Although technically not a Grand Prix, the Le Mans 24-hour race is one of the most famous and iconic of all motor races. This watch, in a lighter shade of green than the traditional BRG, commemorates the first victory for Aston Martin in the 1959 race.
DBR is an acronym for David Brown Racing. Brown was the owner of Aston Martin at the time. The race was won by the Anglo American pairing of Roy Salvadori and Carroll Shelby.

2) The C70 DBR1 COSC - was launched in September 2011, following the success of the original C70 DBR1, this limited edition of 300 pieces uses a COSC-rated quartz chronometer movement.
The chronograph seconds and minutes hands are both mounted centrally and a a chronograph hours register is in the 9:00 position.
As with its predecessor, the watch commemorates the first victory for Aston Martin in the 1959 Le Mans 24-hour race.

3) The C70 DBR1 COSC AM100 - part of the C70 Grand Prix range - was launched in July 2013 as a limited edition of 100 pieces, in collaboration with TMB Art Metal.

It was created to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Aston Martin's founding in 1913, and the first Aston Martin victory at Le Mans in 1959. It was enhanced with a precious fragment of the winning DBR1/2 implanted in the case back.

This design was the perfect choice to celebrate 100 years of this famous marque.

The watch has a Museum-grade anti-reflective sapphire crystal covering the dial and the DBR1/2 disc on back-plate.

The chronograph seconds and minutes hands are both mounted centrally and a a chronograph hours register is in the 9:00 position.

This one is the rarest and most desirable AM100 version.

Warranty

It comes with a six month Ward Hoard warranty.

Strap

This watch comes on its original strap with fitted ends, in great condition.

Condition

The C70s exposed alloy bezel and thinly applied paint make it notoriously delicate, so finding one in good condition is becoming increasingly challenging (CW has long since exhausted its supply of replacement bezels/cases as well as straps).

This example is in lovely condition.

This watch came to me as the watch and strap only, but I’ve found a luxury CW watch box that it would have come in at the time and an owner’s manual.

In summary, one of the most collectable C70s that rarely come up, in excellent condition.
