Christopher Ward C900 Single Pusher

Introduction

Where to start with this stunning watch?

The single pusher chronograph is one of the rarest and most technically demanding complications in mechanical watchmaking. Unlike traditional chronographs that use two or three pushers to start, stop, and reset the timer, a single pusher does it all—with just one button. This elegant simplicity requires a complex and highly customized movement, and few brands dare to attempt it.

When Christopher Ward released the C900 Harrison Single Pusher Chronograph, it wasn’t just launching a new watch—it was making a statement. Pushing boundaries is something that CW has done throughout its existence, and the C900 was proof that CW could not only design beautiful watches, but engineer them at a level that demanded respect from the watch community.

Powered by the JJ02 calibre, developed in-house by Johannes Jahnke and Jean Fillon, the C900 transforms the robust Unitas 6497 into a single pusher chronograph. The movement’s architecture is deliberately open and legible, allowing the wearer to observe the column wheel, clutch, and gear train in action. It’s not just a chronograph—it’s a study in watchmaking, worn on the wrist.

Functionally, it’s not built for timing races. Its 18,000 bph frequency and minimalist dial layout prioritise legibility and elegance over precision. But that’s the point. The C900 hearkens back to an earlier era of chronograph design—one where simplicity, symmetry, and mechanical clarity were paramount.

Operating the mechanism is an absolute joy. It provides a reassuring, deliberate click that feels perfectly engineered, like closing a door on a well-built car.

It’s a big watch with a 43mm case, lug to lug of 51.4mm and case height of 15.9mm. It has a domed sapphire crystal to its bi-compax dial layout and needle-thin hands, it’s simply lovely. Unsurprisingly it was voted as This was voted as Forum Watch of the Year 2012 by CW Forum members.
