Christopher Ward C70 Monte Carlo Limited Edition

The C70 MC was the eighth member of the C70 Grand Prix series, launched in 2011 to celebrate 100 years of the Monte Carlo Rally. The 40-page Owner’s Handbook gives a nice introduction to the eight-piece range. Unlike the other seven C70 GP models, which had engraved case backs, the MC benefits from a nice coloured inlay of the original rallye grille badge - paving the way for similar flag treatments in the case-backs of later C70 GP COSC models.

The watch for sale here is number 267 of 500 and was originally sold in July 2011.

Condition
The C70’s exposed alloy bezel and thinly applied paint make it notoriously delicate, so finding the older ones in good condition is becoming increasingly challenging (CW has long since exhausted its supply of replacement bezels/cases). The watch in this listing isn’t just good condition, it’s in fantastic shape, having had very little wrist time. You can see light marks and signs of use on both the strap and watch head, but it’s still one of the best I’ve seen in a long time - and I doubt I’ll see a better one again.

It’s presented in the original deluxe wooden case with red internals and engraved name plaque. These boxes are prone to the red top surface peeling off (especially if the box has been stored in damp locations like garages or lofts), but this one is in great share with just minor defects where the roll slots into the box . Also included are the original Owner’s Handbook with Certificate of Authenticity, an unused polishing cloth, and a copy of the standard CW covering letter of the time.
