CHRISTOPHER WARD C60 APEX LIMITED EDITION

Is a one million pound McLaren P1 a faster and technically superior car compared to a £10m (yes ten million) pound McLaren F1? Well, yes. it’s a better and faster car in pretty much every department. In fact, a £150k McLaren 720S is also probably a faster and ‘better’ car than an F1 too - and you could buy perhaps 60 720s to one F1! So what’s going on? Well, you need to dig deeper than performance figures and technical specifications… when history and rarity/desirability get involved, logical rules go out of the window!

And the same is true if you were to put a C60 Apex up against a C60 Concept. Technically, the Titanium, Skeletonised Concept is the superior watch. But there are 210 of them and five have changed hands this year… Is a watch that comes up for sale every few months especially rare?

CW only made 100 C60 Apex models - a bold step up from the 50 C7 Apexs. I’ve not seen any C60 Apexs change hands this year - what does that tell you? And what if number 100 of 100 came up for sale in brand new, unworn condition? Surely some kind of museum piece? Of course I’d say that. because it’s in my interest to big it up because I’m the seller… but I’m also a very long term collector… and I don’t actually want to sell this watch, because it’s one of the stars of my collection! But everything has a price and I’ve just ploughed a mountain of cash into a new tattoo studio - so my moment of weakness is your opportunity to grab a piece of CW history! In five years time, £4k for this watch is going to look like a joke price… Screen grab this page and set an alarm for five years time 😉

The Apex arrived in September 2019. On a rubber strap it cost £3,400 and on a bracelet it cost £3,500. What would such a bespoke watch with a 120h power reserve command if it had an Omega or Rolex badge on the face? Who knows, but I’d say £10-20k would be a very conservative estimate. By June 2020 they were all sold… or were they?! The piece for sale here, number 100 of 100 was actually held back until in November 2020 - a classic CW ‘archive find’, which I’ve always loved and specialised in. Life-changing difference? Not really. CW owner pub/internet bragging rights? Absolutely - surely it gets no better?!

Condition
The watch is in brand new, unworn condition. Supplied as a ‘full set’ including bamboo case, owner’s book, warranty card, COSC certificate and unused polishing cloth. It also comes with the original CW marketing flyer. I’m not sure whether they were just posted to big spending customers or everyone on the mailing list… but either way, it’s a nice addition to an historical CW watch.
