Christopher Ward C60 Trident Pro 600 COSC

Sometimes product names can be confusing. There are have been many different ‘C60 Trident Pro’ models released over the past 13 years, so saying “I have a Trident Pro” to a CW fan is a bit like saying “I drive a 3-series” to a BMW enthusiast - it’s doesn’t exactly narrow it down much! When it comes to ‘C60 Trident Pro 600’, that eliminates all the Mk1s, but there are still many 600 variants. There have been several C60 Trident Pro COSC-certified pieces, the Trident Pro COSC and the Trident Day Date COSC to name a couple - they’re both special edition watches, but based pretty closely on the original Trident Pro 600.

However, in the case of one subtle name change, in this instance to the ‘C60 Trident COSC 600’ the name adjustment may be small, but there’s been a HUGE jump away from the original model. Out went the (38-hour) Sellita/ETA movements fitted to every other C60 Trident Pro 600 and in came CW’s in-house (120-hour) SH21 calibre!

The SH21-powered C60 Trident COSC 600 dates back to 2015. Christopher Ward putting their all-new, in-house, 120-hour power reserve movement into a 600m, sub £1,500 (at launch) dive watch was (and still is) a pretty big deal by any standards. There was a black bezel/black face version which was ‘unlimited’, the black bezel/white face version was limited to 300 pieces and there were also 32 rather special red bezel/black face pieces which made a very brief appearance.

Then in early 2017 the logo was switched from the 12 o’clock CHR. WARD to the 9 o’clock Christopher Ward, the C60 Trident COSC range was trimmed to just a single black/black model and the price was jacked to £1,700 for the bracelet version. It’s that ‘current logo’ 2017-2018 piece which is for sale here. The SH21 calibre wasn’t seen in a C60 again until the £3,500 C60 Apex from 2019 or the £2,000 C60 Abyss from late 2020.

To the untrained eye, this watch appears almost identical to the regular 2017 C60 600. But look a little closer and all is not what it seems. The date window is further to the right than the standard model. The deeper, tapered case back adds almost 2mm to the overall height. And finally the addition of “CHRONOMETER” to the face are the only giveaways.

There are no official figures on how many were sold, but with this SH21 model costing almost 300% more than the regular C60 600 and the CHR. WARD white face 300-LE model limited to just 300 pieces during its lifetime, I think it’s safe to say that around 100 to 200 of these watches are out there in the wild. The serial number on this April 2017 watch is number 71 - read into that what you will.

Condition
It’s a used watch, but it’s not been worn much, so it’s in extremely good condition. There aren’t really any marks from wear that I can report (the bezel and crystal appear perfect, as does the seemingly unworn bracelet), the only defects appear to be the tell-tail signs of some strap changes on the polished lugs left behind by someone who should have probably practiced on something a bit cheaper or watched a few more YouTube videos before he got stuck in! There are also some very light marks on the case back - presumably as a result of the watch having been worn with a two-piece strap and having been set down on a slightly rough surface. All would probably buff out with a bit of Cape Cod time, but I’ve left it ‘as was’.

The watch comes as a ‘full set’, with original deluxe wooden presentation case, covering letter, unused polishing cloth and user guide with Certificate of Authenticity. And of course the COSC certificate which shows a mean daily rate of +2.25sec - very close to the centre of the -4/+6 COSC window.

Final Notes

  • Note the first four photographs are library shots, the rest all show the actual watch and package - sorry, it’s tricky to photograph polished black/silver watches, so they’re not the best!
