Christopher Ward C1 Grand Malvern Small Second (2020)

The C1 Grand Malvern was introduced in 2016 as a slimmed replacement for the more slab-sided C9 dress range. The first C1 was the Power Reserve (with its power reserve gauge at 9 o’clock), then in 2017 the C1 range grew rapidly with the Jumping Hour, the Moonphase, the 5-Day, a couple of Morgan editions and finally this, the Small Second.

At just 11.6mm tall it’s a pretty slim piece, which when combined with the C1’s sculpted sides can look even slimmer on the wrist. It’s powered by a hand-wound version of CW’s in-house, COSC-certified, SH21 movement - famous for its 120 power reserve. It had a pretty brief sales window (less than a year) so it’s a pretty rare piece. Needless to say, it’s no longer available from CW, but when it was, this mesh bracelet model cost £1,400.

This particular piece is an ‘archive find’, which I bought brand new in July 2020, so it’s probably the youngest Small Second you’ll find. The movement warranty is valid until July 2025. It’s fitted with the original CW stainless mesh bracelet.

The watch is in pristine, as new condition.
